Brent Cashatt is an experienced trial lawyer with a broad background. Brent focuses exclusively on matrimonial law, and he has negotiated settlements or litigated on behalf of numerous individuals in matters involving business valuations, complex estate plans, allocation of retirement plans and benefits, analysis of executive compensation, personal and corporate taxation issues, property division, maintenance/alimony and child support, custody, visitation and removal of children, and premarital, marital and separation agreements.

Brent is recognized as one of the leading domestic relations lawyers in this region. He is a frequent speaker and contributor to Continuing Education seminars and is trained in mediation and collaborative law.

Brent is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and serves on its Admissions Committee. To be represented by a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers is to be represented by a leading practitioner in the field of family law.
    The more than 1,600 AAML Fellows across the United States are generally recognized by judges and attorneys as preeminent family law practitioners with a high level of knowledge, skill and integrity. Brent is one of only six Fellows from the State of Iowa.

Brent also serves on the Governing Council of the Family and Juvenile Law Section of the Iowa State Bar Association, and served as the Chair of the section in 2010-2011.

Brent strives to give back to the community and has been duly recognized for his efforts, twice receiving the Polk County Bar Association’s Volunteer Lawyer’s Project Pro Bono Award (2002, 2004) as well as the Iowa State Bar Association’s Pro Bono Award (2002).

Brent graduated from Grand View College, Des Moines, Iowa, with distinction in 1986 and received his J.D. degree from Drake University School of Law. He was admitted to practice law in the State of Iowa in 1989. He is a member of the Polk County, Iowa State and American Bar Associations. He has attended the ABA Family Law School Trial Advocacy Institute.
